We are in the wonderful Mornington Peninsula region, 1hr south of Melbourne. By Australian standards this area is pretty small with only around 650Ha under vine (Mudgee 4500Ha, Hunter Valley 4700Ha) but the cool climate and maritime winds make for some premium wines being made here. On the weekends, the cellar doors are packed with visitors making for 2 things: an easy escape if you would prefer not to buy, but slower and less attentive service. So pick your days to visit.
If you are looking for activities celebrating wine but also a little different from your average cellar door, then try investigating this little place. We visited Foxey’s Hangout Winery to watch and participate in the disgorgement, dosage and corking of their sparkling. Here you get to watch it all happen, and actually have an impact of the final taste of the sparkling and then take one home made just to your liking. Perfect!
You can visit the Foxey’s page here
You’re welcome. You are a natural in front of a camera. You should do live broadcasts on the net and people can tune in each weekend. Ha ha.
Hi Tim,
Brilliant job on the editing to make an ‘old bloke’ sound half decent’.
Many Thanks,
Mike
Disgorge, dosage… delish! How can I have worked on the Peninsula for so long and never have heard of this? Can’t wait to try to make my own concoction. Hope you guys have manage to get around to the winery tour on horseback. XXX
