In this episode we visit the Clare Valley in South Australia. Clare is revered as the king of Riesling production in Australia and with good reason. Every cellar door will have at least one on offering, but as you would expect, there are some better than others. Those that excel not only excel within the Clare, but also stand out amongst Australia’s best as a whole. The biggest shame, of course, is that those places that produce the best expression of the varietal, simply don’t need a cellar door. They have waiting lists up the wazoo for their product. This was the case for Wendouree. Unfortunately for us, there was no cellar door to go to (we only visit those open to general public) so we will have to wait for another time to sample what (we are told) is one of the best Riesling’s in the country – anyone wishing to send us a bottle to confirm the rumour just need contact us for an address
That said, take a look at the video and find out which wines you CAN taste in Clare, and which ones to bother spending your precious time and petrol getting to (or leg power in our case).
