About

Welcome to Wine Around Oz. We are hoping to produce a unique video wine review web page that will help inform viewers about the joys of good Australian wine.

We are on a journey around Australia specifically to find, taste and review wines that you don’t find in everyday shops. Our goal is to review as many wines as we can, but in particular to focus on wines that have an unusual story, location, method or history. The plan is to include viewers on our journey, get ideas from you, include your comments about the wines we review or our reviewing notes themselves. This is not the Halliday be all and end all of wine opinions. It’s plainly obvious the no one can tell you what wines you are going to like, so we’re not going to try. We just hope that we can give an idea on whether a wine has any qualities that are worth shelling out the money to buy. All wrapped up in the nice warm fuzzy blanket of info-tainment.

Where possible we will put in contact details about how you might be able to get hold of a bottle if it is not for sale in your area. Where possible we want anyone who buys a reviewed wine to chip in and add a comment about it so that an overall community impression of the wine can be gained rather than a single review. Where possible we will review wines made or grown directly in the region we are in – but cut us some slack, I don’t think there are many wineries on the Oodnadatta Track. Maybe we’ll just have to review the plonk sold at the pub instead.

Enjoy.

About Tim…

Tim’s involvement with wine started in the late 80’s when he started working at a friends bottle shop and the Chrsitmas gift one year of a bottle of Pol Roger Champagne. The hook was in. The next few years were spent working at another bottle shop, honing the interest in wine. Later on, back at shop number 1, Tim assisted the owner in writing the wine reviews for the web page. An extensive wine appreciation trip through Champagne and Bordeaux in ’06 gave Tim the opportunity to really get to fully appreciate the various old world styles that are harder to find in Australia. In 2009, Tim and Kat decided to dedicate a year of their life to an exhaustive research trip of wines that you just can’t get, or don’t hear about in normal bottle shops around Sydney and the bigger cities.

About Kat…

Kat just loves wine. Has been drinking it for longer than she really should have been, is addicted to French Champagne and keeps a secret diary of places in Sydney that stock her favorites. In 06, along with Tim, she traveled to France for an extensive wine appreciation tour of Champagne (of course) and Bordeaux. Kat is bursting with fervor about our exhaustive research trip around the country for Australia’s best boutique wines.
